He visited Czechoslovakia in 1974 at the age of forty (less than two years after landing on the moon), he was a guest of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava and Smolenice.
He also visited the birthplace of his grandparents – the municipality of Vysoká nad Kysucou as well as his relatives of the Čerňan family. It should be noted that the first visit was not presented in media so much, as the contemporary political system could not promote the achievements of American scientists and astronauts.
